Communicating Properly and Effectively
(describe competency) (real estate power point)
Here is What I Have Done
In my business communications class, I was required to provide a 6-minute pitch of the best home choice for a new home buyer, as a consultant. Because this assignment was an extension of our real estate analysis report, I was tasked to compress my findings from the report into a short pitch that was articulated properly and concisely to the home buyer. This was done through an engaging oral presentation that supported my reasoning and provided the home buyer with a final recommendation for the best home choice. During the presentation, I organized information in an engaging manner by using charts, visual comparisons, questions, and interesting facts.
Here is What it Means
By completing this pitch, I was able to properly communicate the attributes of the best home choice by translating the information in a form that is most engaging and understandable to the client. I used questions throughout the presentations to ensure that the reader is following along and that the message is conveyed correctly. Incorporating visuals instead of lengthy paragraphs within the PowerPoint slides helped explain the information more coherently so that the client is able to learn quicker. These visuals also included graphs regarding the increase in property value and pictures of leisure activities near the home. This showed my ability to understand different communication styles and apply it when making recommendations.
This pitch assignment helped me understand the misconceptions around oral presentations regarding how you relay information to an audience. Individuals do not retain information through lengthy PowerPoint with a lot of writing in it. Visuals, charts, and graphs help leave longer-lasting impressions in an individual's mind and lead to better results when (trying to get) the targeted audience to understand your point. Properly communicating recommendations is crucial to ensuring that the targeted audience is left with a clear understanding of your point. As seen in the presentation, I was able to effectively present my point leaving the client and me satisfied.
Here is Where it Leads Me
As a Marketer, it is my job to ensure that the message of a brand is clear and concise. Effective Advertisement for a company means that the audience fully understands the brand's message at hand, which is why proper communication skills are important. Fostering effective communications skills also helps build better relationships with clients. Having this skill will assist me with building a strong brand image because I am able to be clear and engaging with the company's message. This will then attract the desired target market and improve necessary client-company and business-to-business relationships.
